“Storykeepers” acknowledges the generations of Elders,
organisers, activists and allies whose collective efforts have
sustained and advanced the recognition and celebration of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
The title reflects the coming together of voices, actions and
histories that have shaped the movement behind NAIDOC.
Through resistance, advocacy, and community leadership, First
Nations peoples and their allies have worked collectively to
create lasting change. The markings and symbols interwoven
throughout the canvas represent these shared journeys,
connections and moments of solidarity.

Vibrant splashes of pink, blue and purple move across the
surface as expressions of community voices and influential
spokespeople whose impact continues to resonate across
generations. The intersecting forms suggest the meeting of
ideas, experiences and aspirations that have strengthened First
Nations visibility, self-determination, and cultural pride.
“Storykeepers” serves as both a tribute and a reminder that
NAIDOC Week exists because of countless acts of courage,
perseverance and collective action. It honours those who laid
the foundations of the movement, those who carried it forward
through challenging times and those who continue to advocate
for recognition, justice and celebration today.
